Retooling Project Extends Life of Valuable PPE
The California Metals Coalition (CMC), California Metals Coalition Institute (CMCi) and MiraCosta College Technology Career Institute (TCI) have teamed up for a “retooling” project aimed at supporting our local first responders during COVID‐19.
The shortage of PPE (ex: N95 masks) can leave health care workers, fire fighters, EMT, and others at risk. To help solve this problem, TCI retooled a portion of their Carlsbad location to manufacture portable decontamination kits.
The kit includes a Germicidal Ultraviolet (UV‐C) System, which is an environmentally friendly, non‐chemical disinfection process. The system plugs in to any standard outlet, and within 2‐4 minutes extends the life of valuable PPE. How? Germicidal UV‐C light deactivates the DNA of bacteria, virus, and other pathogens on surfaces and thus destroys their ability to multiply and cause disease.
